Dyes in this range are principally used for dyeing wool but some have important secondary uses for dyeing of silk, polyamide and printing of wool and silk. Selected dyes are also used for dyeing of leather and anodised aluminum.
Mordant Dyes are those dyes that combines with the mordant to form a deposit or a layer of insoluble color in substrate. Mordant act as 'fixing agents' to improve the colour fastness of some acid dyes, which have the ability to form complexes with metal ions. the wide range of mordant dyes includes acids such as tannic acid, sumac, gall nuts, bark extracts, oleic and stearic acids, and Turkey red oil; and metallic substances such as various combinations or soluble salts of chromium, aluminum, iron, copper, and tin.
